Estimates, not advice

Bonus Check Calc estimates how much federal, state and local tax and certain payroll contributions an employer withholds from a bonus, based on published IRS and state rules. It is general information, not tax, legal, accounting or payroll advice, and it does not create any professional relationship. For decisions about your own taxes, consult a qualified tax professional or the relevant agency.

Why your check can differ

Your employer's payroll system may use a different permitted method (for example aggregating a bonus where we show a state's optional flat rate), round differently, apply deductions we do not model (health insurance, HSA, other pre-tax benefits, garnishments) or use W-4 entries we do not ask for. Withholding is also not your final tax: your actual liability is determined on your federal and state returns. Lines marked "Estimate" or "Needs your figure" are not verified withholding rules.

Accuracy and updates

We verify figures against primary sources and show the date each was verified. Tax rules change, sometimes mid-year, and agencies occasionally revise publications. We correct confirmed errors promptly (see the editorial policy), but we cannot guarantee that every figure is current at the moment you use it. If you find an error, please report it.

Use of the site

You may use the calculator and share links to results for personal or business purposes. Please do not scrape the site at high volume or represent its output as an official agency calculation. The site's text, design and code are the publisher's work; citations to agency publications remain the property of those agencies.

No warranty and limitation of liability

The site is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the publisher is not liable for losses arising from reliance on the calculator or content, including penalties or interest from under-withholding.
