Kansas Bonus Tax Calculator 2026
Kansas mirrors the federal choice: a bonus withheld at the federal flat rate gets 5% Kansas withholding; a bonus added to regular pay goes through the Kansas formula (5.2% / 5.58%).

Kansas mirrors the federal method
KW-100, the Guide to Kansas Withholding Tax, says "Kansas withholding on a supplemental wage payment is computed using the same method that you use at the federal level." If the bonus is stated separately and federal tax is a flat percentage, Kansas is 5% of the gross payment — the guide's example is $50 on a $1,000 bonus, the same $50.00 this calculator shows. If the employer instead adds the bonus to regular wages for federal purposes, it must do the same for Kansas.
When payroll aggregates
The Kansas percentage tables for wages paid on and after July 1, 2024 have two brackets above the allowance: 5.2%, then 5.58% (above $26,605 of annual wages after allowances for single filers, $54,240 for married). Allowances are the Kansas personal exemption spread over the pay periods — $9,160 for single, head-of-household and married-filing-separately employees, $18,320 for joint filers — plus $2,320 per dependent and another $2,320 for heads of household. A $5,000 bonus on $3,000 biweekly is withheld $250.00 under the flat 5% and $279.00 under aggregation; for a married employee with two dependents under aggregation, $279.00.
The 2024 rate change
Kansas cut its income tax rates during the 2024 special legislative session (Senate Bill 1), effective for all of tax year 2024, and raised the standard deduction and personal exemption. The withholding tables changed mid-year on July 1, 2024 and still apply for 2026.
