New Mexico Bonus Tax Calculator 2026
New Mexico follows the federal method: with the federal flat rate, a bonus gets a flat 5.9% New Mexico withholding; with the aggregate method, the 2026 tables apply.

New Mexico copies the federal method
FYI-104, the Taxation and Revenue Department's withholding publication effective January 1, 2026, says "the same method used for calculating federal withholding on irregular or supplemental wages should be used for state withholding." If federal tax on the bonus is a flat percent, New Mexico withholds "a flat 5.9% of the supplemental wage" — $295.00 on $5,000, $59 on $1,000. If the employer aggregates the bonus with regular pay for federal purposes, New Mexico aggregates too, using its own tables: $245.00 for the standard example.
Tables without state allowances
New Mexico's 2026 tables have been rebuilt around the federal W-4: there are no New Mexico allowances, and the tables are split by filing status — single, married and head of household — with brackets of 1.5%, 3.2%, 4.3%, 4.7%, 4.9% and 5.9%. A head-of-household employee under aggregation sees $242.38. FYI-104 adds that a married employee who chose the higher single rate on the federal W-4 must be withheld at the single rate for New Mexico as well.
Quarterly reporting since 2026
HB 218 (2025) required every employer or payer to report quarterly beginning with the quarter starting January 1, 2026 — a reporting change for employers, not a change in how a bonus is withheld.
