11.70% for the state

NYS-50-T-NYS (1/26), the state's withholding tables and methods, lists supplemental wage payment withholding rates effective January 1, 2026. When tax is withheld from your regular wages and the bonus is paid separately or separately identified, the employer may "withhold at the New York State supplemental rate of 11.70%" or aggregate with the most recent payroll. On a $5,000 bonus the state line is $585.00. The 11.70% is a withholding rate, not a tax bracket; any excess over your actual New York tax comes back when you file.

New York City and Yonkers

New York City residents have city tax withheld at the NYC supplemental rate of 4.25% (NYS-50-T-NYC): $212.50 more on the same bonus, for a net check of $2,698.40. Yonkers uses a resident rate of 1.95975% ($97.99) and a nonresident earnings rate of 0.50% for people who work in Yonkers without living there ($25.00).

Paid Family Leave comes out too

New York's Paid Family Leave is funded by employees: for 2026 the contribution is 0.432% of gross wages per pay period, up to an annual maximum of $411.91. On the $5,000 bonus that is $21.60 — unless you have already reached the cap. Someone with $120,000 of wages earlier in the year has paid most of the maximum, leaving $0.00 for this bonus.
